MASTER SCENE STUDY WITH JONATHAN BERRY
Chicago is a city based on the spirit of ensemble, and the best, most bold, most courageous acting is unleashed when you get out of your head and put yourself into relationship. But being present and in response isn’t easy: It takes preparation to know the character, know the circumstances, and clarify your wants in order to play hard at your actions.
Using the work of some of today’s most exciting playwrights, this advanced acting class will help to clarify your preparation process so that you can discover the creative freedom in trusting that homework and practicing being present and fully alive in the moment.
Having worked with and serving as the director for the famed ensemble training program The School at Steppenwolf, Jonathan Berry brings over 25 years of Chicago theater experience to this approach. Incorporating ideology from Viewpoints, Improv and Meisner, this class will focus on the freedom that comes from preparation, awareness and response.
The focus of this class will be process based – and while significant preparation will be necessary, the goal will be to bring your full self to the work each day, and put that all into your relationship with your scene partner.
Please note, this advanced class requires significant outside work: students are required to rehearse outside of class a minimum of twice a week per scene.
