QUEER ADVANCED SCENE STUDY WITH TERRY GUEST
Being a queer actor can be frustrating!
For much of our lives as performers, we are asked to alter how we speak, how we dress, and how we move to fit into characters that were never written to suit us.
Queer Scene Study course is designed to allow Queer identifying actors and performers the opportunity to work on plays written by queer writers, to explore roles using non-traditional casting, and to bring their authentic selves to their acting process in an all queer space.
Actors will spend 5 weeks working with two scenes from plays from legendary queer writers like Tennessee Williams, James Ijames, Paula Vogel, Aziza Barnes, and Chicago writers like Paul Michael Thomson and Nj Draine.
The course will be led by 3-time Jeff Award-winning playwright, director, actor, and The Story Theatre governing ensemble member Terry Guest. Terry uses his experience as a playwright to help actors explore story structure as a way to develop a role, analyze scripts, and create performances that are honest, specific, vulnerable, and well…queer!
