Theatre Casting Directors work with directors, and sometimes talent agents to find the right actor for the role.
TIP: Many theatre casting directors actually appreciate when actors make a submission, giving a heads up about a role they think they’d be right for and ask to be considered via their cover letter. It gives a director some hints of where you could fit into their season, some types of roles you could play in regards to casting, as well as providing them with more than a blank slate and a pretty face when giving them a headshot and resume.
This involves a decent amount of prep work. First of all, some theatres don’t come right out and say what shows they’re doing and what roles they need. So sit down at your computer, open a fresh excel document and get ready for a healthy dose of research.
