PLAYING SHAKESPEARE: A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO APPROACHING THE BARD WITH ED HALL

This is a terrific opportunity to engage in a hands-on exploration of Shakespeare’s verse, taught by Chicago Shakespeare Theatre Artistic Director Ed Hall. Designed for professional actors seeking practical tools and deeper textual insight, the workshop emphasizes clarity, connection, and confidence in working with Shakespeare’s language.

Day One:  The workshop begins with a group exploration of Shakespearean text, allowing participants to build a shared vocabulary and approach to verse. Once a common language and approach to Shakespeare's verse is established, actors will work on an individual monologue they have selected and prepared in advance.

Day Two: Building on the first day’s work, actors will deepen their practice through more detailed monologue or scene study.  Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of Shakespeare’s verse as well as practical strategies they can carry into future work.

This workshop is designed for working actors with strong training & experience. If interested, please ensure your resume is up to date in your student account and apply. The deadline for submissions is May 18th. We will review all interested applicants and notify everyone by May 21st. This workshop is limited to just 12 actors.
