ONLINE VS IN PERSON:

What’s the difference?
Thoughts from Jennie Moreau
Online & In Person Core Level Teacher

Lots of people, especially beginning actors, call ASC and ask us: “What are ‘online classes’ like?” “What’s the difference?” “Are they as useful as taking a class in person?” So, I asked ASC faculty member Jennie Morea, who currently teaches Online and in-person classes, to share her insight. Here’s what Jennie says to demystify studying Online!

Establishing relationships with their scene partners is the most important thing an actor does, over and over, in a variety of scenarios. As a teacher of both in-person and online classes at ASC, I’ve been challenged, surprised, inspired, and amazed by what is possible ONLINE! Students from across the globe have the opportunity to put the guideposts into practice with folks they may not have met otherwise. We, as a group, are continuously adapting to the use of technology as a way to keep building and changing those acting relationships in scene work and personally. The ONLINE experience allows people to be vulnerable in their own environments at their own pace. We zero in on and hone specific acting choices because we are all in “close up” together. And students learn to “work with what is”, using the camera as a bridge rather than a barrier to connecting with their partners. The guideposts stand strong no matter the medium, ONLINE classes are a great way to explore, grow, and stretch actors!

And never fear; there is always plenty of interactivity and physicality!!
