10 Chicago Agents Talk Marketing

Learning to navigate the “business” and demystify the actor-agent relationship is much of what I teach every Winter to BFA Seniors at the Theatre School at DePaul University. This year the students were assigned to interview the agents. Two students visited each Chicago SAG-AFTRA franchised agency and asked them questions about their agencies, audition advice and marketing for actors.  Not only were the agents generous with their time, they also…

3 Benefits Of Being Involved in an Actors Group

The Reality of the Business  Let’s face facts; most actors have a hard time turning our ART into our BUSINESS. It is surprisingly easy to fall into that spiral of only working the survival job and convincing ourselves that we‘re too tired, too busy, or too broke, to do the real thing we decided to make our life’s work. We lose motivation and drive, and without positive feedback or reinforcement; there is a risk we might shut down. Yet we all…

Esteban Andres Cruz and Applied Viewpoints

We’re excited to have Esteban Andres Cruz join us at Acting Studio Chicago to teach Applied Viewpoints! We asked him a few questions about his experience and his teaching style. When did you decide to become an actor and where did you get your training? Acting wasn’t much of a choice – it came upon me, as they say. I was one of those-performing-from-the-womb types. Mid-July 2017: I’m going to be really honest with you guys, I’m not just tired, I’m exhausted. As I write this I find myself fantasizing about my bed and when I can get back in it. Look Who's Working!

My first Actor's training I ever took was Intro to Shurtleff with Joshua, and On Camera Intro with Sarah Charipar. Both classes- because of the instructors- unlocked my brain into the world of immersing myself into imagination and critique of self. Because of ASC, I have been able to dive deep into an evolution of my auditions. Last year, I worked on a short film that was nominated for multiple film festival selections. I recently booked another short film, which begins filming next week. The current training with Christina [Gorman] allowed myself to be warmed-up and prepared for my booking. I'm extremely grounded in the fact that out of all training types I have received so far, ASC is a hidden gem of Chicago and possibly the U.S. Thank you ASC--I'm so happy to have learned everything I have so far from you. Best, John Stripe Tiggemann
