ADVANCED SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE WITH HENRY GODINEZ
This advanced-level Shakespeare intensive is designed for experienced actors ready to deepen their relationship with classical text and connect with the immediacy and humanity of Shakespeare’s plays. Through rigorous scene and monologue work, led by director, actor, and educator Henry Godinez, the class will focus on unlocking the vitality and emotional truth of Shakespeare’s language using the First Folio as a primary working tool.
Over five weeks, actors will investigate how the Folio’s original punctuation, capitalization, line structure, and textual clues can illuminate intention, action, rhythm, and character. Students will engage in advanced textual analysis while applying those discoveries directly to performance.
The class will include:
- Intensive scene work with assigned partners
- Individual monologue coaching
- Folio-based text analysis and scansion
- Vocal and physical approaches to heightened language
This class requires outside preparation and rehearsal. Actors are expected to arrive prepared, fully memorized, and ready to work.
PREREQUISITE: Strong actor training and post-college experience required. Admission determined by H/R.
